Get your original Italy ID card online. The Carta d’Identità Elettronica (Electronic Identity Card, CIE) is a personal ID document. It replaced the old paper-based identity card in Italy. The electronic ID card proves the identity of the citizen.

It is also valid for travel (in countries that accept it instead of a passport for Italian citizens). You can use it to identify yourself for services that require a document. This includes getting a hotel room or when a seller needs to confirm your identity.

The CIE can help you request a digital identity and access online services from Public Administrations. You can use the identity card within Italy and when traveling to any other EU country.
